Aluminum profiles manufacturing process is very interesting and is a multi-step process. First, workers take large blocks of aluminum — called ingots — and melt them in a large furnace. It superheats this furnace and it melts the solid aluminum into liquid metal. Once melted, the aluminum is then poured into a mold that is in the shape of the profile we are creating. The mold gets cooled until the liquid aluminum solidifies, or in other words hardens and retains the new shape. The profile needs more steps, after demolding, to make it beautiful. These include for example cutting it down to the right size & polishing it so its smooth & even painting it to give it a nice color.
Common and other companies use many different techniques to create custom aluminum profiles. Extrusion is one popular technique. During the process, the hot, melted aluminum is pushed through a special mold (called a die) to create the necessary specific shape. You can think of the die like a cookie-cutter—the aluminum flows into the desired profile. Another technique referred to is machining. This is achieved by machining away excess aluminum from the profile. The process of machining also makes it possible to create certain geometries or configurations that might be hard to achieve with extrusion alone. We need both these techniques to achieve good quality in aluminum profiles.
